Specialist Tutoring FAQ

Our students require a psychological assessment with a confirmed diagnosis of a Specific Learning Difference such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Maths difficulties. This will enable the Specialist Teachers to provide support that is based on the learning needs of the student.

Students who are below 6 years do not require a formal diagnosis

The Specialist Tutoring Programme is guided by the following Orton Gillingham principles:

  • Language-based
  • Structured, cumulative and sequential
  • Simultaneously multi-sensory
  • Emotionally sound
  • Cognitive

An IEP is the Education Plan which the Specialist teacher customises for your child. This is used to define clear SMART targets for the duration of the support given at DAS International with the student. The targets and objectives given will have both long term and short term for your child should be:

  • Specific
  • Manageable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Timely

The IEP is shared with parents with input from them, after the 2nd session so that there is a clear understanding of the expectation and the targets that are in place for the duration of the block.

Based on the targets set on the students IEP, a progress report will be shared with parents after the completion of either a 10 or 20 session block. Targets are revised and a IEP which is dynamic is then updated.

We see parents as partners in supporting the child. Our Specialist Teachers provide regular updates to parents through their preferred means of communication. Parent/teacher face-to-face meeting is also conducted to formally discuss the child’s progress.

Through active dialogue with permission from the parent, we meet up with the child’s learning support and classroom teacher along with the parents. This is vital in ensuring that our support is relevant to the needs of the child and is transferable to his curriculum.

We conduct make-up sessions if we have received notice before 12pm in the case of students attending the afternoon sessions. Alternatively, we will also accept a Medical Chit informing that the child is ill. For students attending the morning sessions, we should receive notice the day before. Otherwise, without notice the missed session will be billed as the Specialist teacher had planned for the session.
